The Haunted Fog: A Chilling Road Trip Horror Story

Delhi winters are renowned across India. The crisp, biting cold lends an undeniable charm to the city. But along with this cold comes a thick blanket of fog, covering the city like a shroud. While the fog is often admired, what if it brought along something sinister, something that could change your life forever? This is the story of Yvain and his friends, who experienced something they’ll never forget.

The Plan for Escape

Yavin and his friends were tired of Delhi’s relentless pollution and decided to take a break. They planned a trip to Himachal Pradesh to rejuvenate in the mountains. Three days later, they hired a cab and set out at 4 a.m., eager to escape the chaos of the city. Their driver was a cheerful, easy-going man who quickly befriended everyone. The journey seemed promising as they laughed and chatted, excited about the adventures ahead.

Entering the Fog

Four hours into the journey, around 8 a.m., the sun hadn’t yet risen fully, and the sky was still dark. Suddenly, they encountered a dense wall of fog on the road. It was so thick that they could barely see a few feet ahead. Everyone in the car noticed a change in the driver’s demeanor. His cheerful face had turned pale, and a look of dread had replaced his earlier smile.

Sensing his unease, Yavin reassured him, “Don’t worry, brother. Just drive slowly, and we’ll get through this.” But the driver’s response was chilling. In a trembling voice, he said, “I have one request: do not open the car windows while we’re in this fog. Please, no matter what happens, keep them closed.”

The seriousness in his tone caught them off guard. His fear seemed irrational, and they couldn’t help but laugh it off. The driver then explained that this region never sees fog unless it’s accompanied by something unnatural – a deception, a trap. Yavin and his friends dismissed it as a local superstition and joked about it as the car drove deeper into the fog.

The First Encounter

As the fog grew thicker, the car crawled forward. Suddenly, Riya, one of Yavin’s friends, began feeling uneasy. She gasped for air and rolled down the car window to breathe. The driver screamed for her to close it, but it was too late. As soon as the window was opened, the fog began to seep into the car.

Riya leaned her head out of the window, taking deep breaths, but when she pulled back inside, she froze in terror. The car was still moving, but all her companions had vanished. Yavin, Ravi, and the driver were nowhere to be seen. The only sound was the hum of the engine. Riya panicked and tried to open the car door to jump out, but it was locked. She screamed for help, her voice echoing in the eerie silence.

Suddenly, the car stopped on its own, and the door unlocked. Riya wasted no time and bolted out, only to find herself surrounded by the thick, oppressive fog. She called out for her friends, her voice trembling with fear. As she stumbled through the mist, she spotted a dark silhouette in the distance – a towering figure, seemingly a man. Desperate for help, she ran toward it, but no matter how fast she ran, the figure always seemed just out of reach.

A Chilling Presence

As Riya tried to make sense of her surroundings, she felt a presence behind her. Her heart raced, and fear rooted her to the spot. Summoning all her courage, she turned around, and her blood ran cold. Standing before her was a shadowy figure, nearly 12 feet tall. Its elongated form loomed over her, radiating an aura of malevolence.

Before she could react, the shadow pushed her, and she fell to the ground. When she regained consciousness, she was back in the car with Yavin, Ravi, and the driver. The driver explained that as soon as Riya had opened the window, she had fainted. He had immediately ordered Ravi to close it. Yavin and Ravi had tried to wake her, but the driver kept muttering the same warning: “You should never open the window in this fog.”

The Unexplainable Twist

Angry and confused, Yavin dismissed the driver’s warnings as superstition. He insisted on getting out of the fog quickly and urged the driver to speed up. The driver reluctantly complied, pressing the accelerator. But just moments later, a young woman appeared out of nowhere in front of the speeding car. The car hit her with a sickening thud, and the driver slammed on the brakes.

Yavin and Ravi jumped out to check on the woman. She lay motionless on the road, her body covered in blood. Yavin turned her over to see her face and froze in horror. The woman was none other than Riya. But how could that be? Riya had been in the car just moments ago.

Panicked, Yavin rushed back to the car, only to find it empty. There was no sign of Ravi, the driver, or even Riya. The seats were eerily vacant. Yavin’s mind raced as he struggled to make sense of what was happening. Desperate, he placed Riya’s body in the car and climbed into the driver’s seat, determined to get out of the fog.

The Final Encounter

As Yavin drove through the fog, the shadowy figure reappeared, blocking his path. It was the same 12-foot-tall presence that Riya had described. Yavin lost control of the steering wheel, and the car veered off the road, crashing into a tree.

The next morning, locals found the car wrecked against the tree. Miraculously, all four passengers survived, but their lives were forever changed. Yavin suffered a head injury that left him mentally unstable, and Riya was so traumatized that she began seeing the shadowy figure everywhere. The driver refused to speak of the incident, while Ravi distanced himself from the group entirely.

The Legend of the Fog

Local folklore in Punjab and Haryana speaks of the “Lende,” 12-foot-tall shadowy beings that take on different forms to deceive and harm humans. The fog, they say, is one of their illusions, a trap to lure unsuspecting travelers. Could this be what Yavin and his friends encountered that fateful night?

The next time you find yourself traveling through a dense fog, remember this story. Whatever you do, don’t roll down your car windows. You never know what might be waiting to slip inside.
